What is electrostatic powder coating?

Powder coating equipment is a surface coating technology that utilizes the principle of electrostatic adhesion. Compared to traditional paint spraying, it is more environmentally friendly and efficient, and is widely used in industries such as furniture, automobiles, and home appliances.

During the powder coating equipment process, the object to be coated must first undergo pretreatment, including degreasing and rust removal, to ensure the surface is clean, enabling the powder to adhere effectively. The critical coating process then begins. The electrostatic generator in the coating equipment generates high-voltage static electricity. When the powder coating is sprayed from the gun, it becomes negatively charged. The object being coated is grounded or otherwise charged with a positive charge. Due to the attraction between positive and negative charges, the charged powder is drawn to the object's surface like an invisible force, adhering uniformly. This process is akin to a magnet attracting iron filings, ensuring that even recessed areas of the object's surface are coated evenly without any gaps.

After spraying, the powder adhering to the object's surface is still in a loose state and requires curing to form a durable coating. The object is placed in a curing oven, heated to a specific temperature (typically between 180°C and 220°C), and maintained at that temperature for a certain period (approximately 10 to 20 minutes). Under high temperatures, the powder begins to melt, flow, and undergo cross-linking reactions, ultimately cooling to form a dense, hard coating. This coating not only gives the object a fresh new appearance but also provides excellent protective properties.

The advantages of powder coating equipments are highly significant. From an environmental perspective, it does not use organic solvents, thereby avoiding the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and reducing pollution to the atmospheric environment; economically, powder coatings can be recycled and reused, with a utilization rate of over 95%, thereby reducing production costs; in terms of performance, the coating formed has greater thickness, higher hardness, better wear resistance, and superior corrosion resistance compared to traditional paint coatings, effectively extending the service life of the object. For these reasons, electrostatic powder coating technology is widely adopted for enhancing quality and aesthetics in various applications, including the metal frames of furniture, the wheels and bumpers of automobiles, and the casings of home appliances.
